Which batteries need a passport?
From 18 February 2027, every light means of transport battery (e-bikes, e-scooters), every industrial battery above 2 kWh, and every electric-vehicle battery placed on the EU market needs a digital battery passport, accessible through a QR code on the battery.
We import our batteries from China. Is this our problem?
Usually, yes. If the manufacturer is outside the EU, the importer or the party placing the battery on the EU market carries the responsibility. That's why Passvolt includes a supplier portal in English and Chinese: your factory fills in the technical data, you review and publish.
What happens if we're not ready?
Market surveillance authorities can require corrective action, withdraw non-compliant batteries from the market, or prohibit their sale, and member states set penalties. Implementation typically takes months because the data sits with your suppliers, so starting early matters.
Is the free workspace really free?
Yes. Create a battery model, invite your supplier, collect data and see your readiness score without a card. You only pay when you publish live passports.
How long does the passport have to stay online?
Passports must remain available over the battery's life. We host them on your behalf for as long as you're a customer, and you can export all passport data as JSON at any time.
What happens to our printed QR codes if we leave, or if Passvolt shuts down?
Your QR codes can point to your own domain (for example passport.yourbrand.com), so the codes printed on your batteries belong to you. If you ever move away, you point that domain elsewhere and every label keeps working. If Passvolt ever closes, we commit to at least 90 days' notice, a full data export, and a static copy of every passport page you can host anywhere.
Who owns the data?
You do. We only process it to run your passports. One click exports everything: models, data, serial numbers, passport IDs and access keys.
What about carbon footprint and recycled content?
Those data points are phased in through later EU delegated acts. Passvolt already has the fields, marked as 'later phase', so you can fill them when they become mandatory without changing systems.
Can I cancel?
Monthly plans cancel anytime. Your data stays exportable.
